MCC Athletics announces Academic All-Region honors

The Marshalltown Community College athletic department has been informed by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) that 60 MCC student-athletes qualified for Fall Academic All-Region honors. First Team honorees must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 to 4.0, and Second Team honorees must have a 3.0 to 3.49 GPA.

The Tiger baseball team qualified seven players: First Team include Grant Westermajer of Greenwood Village, CO; Kaleb Krumm of Grinnell, IA; Kyle Magdic of Lincoln, ON, Canada; Leighton Whipple of Nebraska City, NE; Shane Tarlton of Des Moines, IA and Trevor Doerring of Collins, IA. Mason Adkins of Fennimore, WI received Second Team honors.

The softball team qualified five players: First Team include Josilyn Zahnd of Marshalltown, IA; Kyleigh Westlin of Eldridge, IA; Paige Westlin of Eldridge, IA and Alyssa McElvain of Centerville, IA. Riley Cox of Des Moines, IA received Second Team honors.

The men's basketball team qualified 11 players: First Team include Alasan Mbowe of Lamin, Gambia; Dachi Sepiashvili of Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia; Kaleb Collins of Houston, TX; Michael Barell of Midreshet Ben-Gurion, Israel; Nikhil Sacher of Vienna, Austria and Julio Feria of Seville, Spain. Second Team honorees include: Camden Blount of Baltimore, MD; Gedeon Shango of Kinshasa, Congo; Lavarius Hampton of Indiantown, FL; Mekki Sisk of Davenport, IA and Tyler Burrows of Bolingbrook, IL.

The volleyball team qualified seven players: First Team include Abby Redmond of Davenport, IA; Allinson Almonte Torres of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Angeles Bentancourt of Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic; Aryana McQueen of Scottsdale, AZ; Brittany Sichra of Marshalltown, IA; Kenna Paxson of Conrad, IA. Katherine Acosta of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic received Second Team honors.

The men's soccer team qualified 23 players: First Team include Aaron Debus of Heimerdingen, Germany; Alex Neri of Frosinone, Italy; Andre Lopes of Contagem, Brazil; Bernardo Pereira of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Filipe Nassif de Almeida of Niteroi, Brazil; Gabriel Uemura of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Hiroki Tsuda of Kogoshima, Japan; Ivan Isaacs Rodriguez of Bogota, Colombia; Kirubel Goitom of Stuttgart, Germany; Lincoln Cordeiro Borges of Sabara, Brazil; Lucas Fazzolari of Jacarei, Brazil; Pedro Gomes Batista da Rocha of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Rafael Cagnin of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Ramon Bonzatto Chagas of Morretes, Brazil; Rayane El Mehdi of Casablanca, Marocco; Santiago Rios of Bogota, Colombia; Seonghwi Lee of Miryang-si, South Korea; Sora Noda of Tokyo, Japan and Yuki Fujita of Hyogo, Japan. Second Team honors were earned by Hikaru Togashi of Tokyo, Japan; Pedro Spolador Laurentino of Morretes, Brazil; Ryan Flannery of Dublin, Ireland and Sodai Koketsu of Yokohama, Japan.

The women's soccer team qualified seven players: First Team include Gabby Eirikson of State Center, IA; Katherine Velandia Cifuentes of Bogota, Colombia and Luisa Campos Ribeiro de Noronha of Brasilia, Brazil. Second Team honorees include Bianca Andrade of Marshalltown, IA; Brianna Medina of Marshalltown, IA; Emma Long of Thornton, CO and Monse Nunez of Tama, IA.
