MCC Athletics announces Spring Academic All-Region

The Marshalltown Community College athletic department has been informed by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) that 64 MCC student-athletes qualified for Spring Academic All-Region honors. First Team honorees must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 to 4.0, and Second Team honorees must have a 3.0 to 3.49 GPA.

The Tiger baseball team qualified 13 players: First Team include Austin Gurney of Campbell River, BC, Canada; Brock Stewart of Gardner, KS; Charlie Adams of Hamilton, ON, Canada; CJ Terronez of Moline, IL; Grant Westermajer of Greenwood Village, CO; Kyle Magdic of Lincoln, ON, Canada; Leighton Whipple of Nebraska City, NE; Logan Tajchman of Wichita, KS; Miguel Padron of San Joaquin, Venezuela; Shane Tarlton of Des Moines, IA; and Trevor Doerring of Collins, IA. Grant Geren of Kansas City, MO and Ronaldo Rivera of Panama earned Second Team honors. 

The men's basketball team qualified six players: First Team include Alasan Mbowe of Lamin, Gambia; Julio Feria of Seville, Spain; Michael Barell of Midreshet Ben-Gurion, Israel; and Nikhil Sacher of Vienna, Austria. Lavarious Hampton of Indiantown, FL and Tyler Burrows of Bolingbrook, IL earned Second Team honors.

The women's basketball team qualified eight players: First Team include Aanna Berg of Zuelpich, Germany; Angeles Betancourt of Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic; Aryana McQueen of Scottsdale, AZ; Kaylin Smith of Marshalltown, IA and Waiaaria Rogers of Rotorua, New Zealand. Cristal Mercedes of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Emma Long of Thorton, CO and Olivia Gradwell of Marshalltown, IA earned Second Team honors.

The men's soccer team qualified 18 players: First Team include Aaron Debus of Heimerdingen, Germany; Alex Neri of Frosinone, Italy; Andre Lopes of Contagem, Brazil; Bernardo Pereira of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Filipe de Almeida of Niteroi, Brazil; Gabriel Uemura of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Lincoln Borges of Sabara, Brazil; Lucas Fazzolari of Jacarei, Brazil; Pedro Batista da Rocha of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Rafael Cagnin of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Santiago Rios of Bogota, Colombia; Seonghwi Lee of Miryang-si, South Korea; Sodai Koketsu of Yokohama, Japan and Sora Noda of Tokyo, Japan. Second Team honorees include David Montano of Bogota, Colombia; Hikaru Togashi of Tokyo, Japan; Ivan Isaacs Rodriguez of Bogota, Colombia and Ryan Flannery of Dublin, Ireland.

The women's soccer team qualified six players: First Team include Gabrielle Eirikson of State Center, IA; Jennifer Velandia Cifuentes of Bogota, Colomiba; and Luisa Campos Riberio de Noronha of Brasilia, Brazil. Brianna Medina of Marshalltown, IA; Guadalupe "Anahi" Tellez of Marshalltown, IA; and Monserrat Nunez of Tama, IA earned Second Team honors.

The softball team qualified five players: First Team include Kyleigh Westlin of Eldridge, IA and Paige Westlin of Eldridge, IA. Second Team honorees include Ava Dixon of Queensland, Australia; Kyan Nickel of Kearney, NE; and Riley Cox of Des Moines, IA.

The volleyball team qualified eight players: First Team include Abigail Redmond of Davenport, IA; Allinson Almonte of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Angeles Betancourt of Hafo Mayor Del, Dominican Republic; Aryana McQueen of Scottsdale, AZ; Brittany Sichra of Marshalltown, IA; and Kenna Paxson of Conrad, IA. Cristal Mercedes of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and Katherine Acosta of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic earned Second Team honors.
