The MCC men's basketball team took the floor Monday night against the Storm of Simpson College in the Student Activity Center. Coming off a tough loss from ICCAC rival Indian Hills, the Tigers stood at 12-8 entering Mondays contest. The Simpson College JV was no match for the Tigers as they handled the Storm 82-61.

Standout performances by Mohamed Thiam and Javarcus Word led to the twenty-one point victory. Mohamed Thiam would end the night going 9-16 from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line for 25 points but his excellent play at the rim was more impressive as the 6'9 forward brought in 18 rebounds.

"Mo played well tonight but he wasn't challenged, he has the ability to do that every game," state Head Coach Brynjar Brynjarsson. "His efficiency stood out tonight, he continues to make good decisions and that is why he's successful."

Javarcus Word was the surprise of the night going 5-7 from the field, 3-4 from the three-point arc and 2-4 from the free throw line for 15 points and tallied seven assists.

"Jarvarcus is just starting to play his game, he's fast and athletic and that allows him to make plays most players can't. He's been getting better all year long and we will count on him down the stretch," stated Brynjarsson after the game.

Kelton Edwards would again come off the bench and see success, scoring 12 points on the night. Eric Ting and Palmi Thorsson would also contribute scoring eight and six points respectively.

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, January 27 when they take on ICCAC rival Northeast Community College. The Hawks are currently 12-8 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, with Indian Hills yet to play on Wednesday. The Hawks average 84 points per game led by the third leading scoring in the conference, Steve Wooden, who averages 18.4 points per game. The Tigers defense will be challenged as they look to continue the success they saw Monday night. Saturday's conference play will tip off at 7:00 PM in the Student Activity Center.
