Marshalltown Community College is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Kathleen Brown as the school's Director of Athletics. Brown begins her tenure at MCC on July 6.

MCC Provost Dr. Robin Lilienthal welcomes Brown's experience and passion for college athletics to MCC. "We are pleased to have Dr. Kathleen Brown usher in the next era of MCC Tiger Athletics," Lilienthal stated. "She brings a great level of both coaching and administrative experience to our department. We anticipate that our student-athletes, fans, supporters, and all those involved with Tiger athletics will be very impressed by our athletic department's vision for the future."

Brown brings over five years of athletic administration experience, having spent the past year as the Assistant Athletic Director at Grace University, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association located in Omaha, NE.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to join MCC athletics," Brown said upon her hiring. "The department has a solid foundation and I look forward to using my skills and abilities to continue to progress the department forward."

Along with serving as the Assistant Athletic Director, Brown began the softball program for the Royals as the school's first-ever head coach. Brown was also a Sport Management faculty member. As the Assistant Athletic Director, Brown provided administrative support to the Athletic Director while managing and promoting all home events. Brown also supervised the Royal Pride Booster Club.

"As a former coach and instructor," Brown continued, "I'm pleased to be able to take a position where I can dedicate myself to the student-athlete experience as a whole. I look forward to providing support for all of our athletic programs and the student-athletes both on and off the fields and courts."

Prior to her time at Grace, Brown was the Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Woman's Administrator at the University of Minnesota Crookston where she oversaw every aspect of all eight women's programs from 2014-2015.

Brown spent one year as the Athletic Director at Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville, VA 2013-2014. Brown managed an 8-team department while also serving as an adjunct math professor. Prior to taking over as the Athletic Director at Patrick Henry, Brown was the program's head softball coach for five years and the Assistant Athletic Director for two years. As the head softball coach, Brown led the Patriots to the 2012 Region X conference championship and was named the 2011 Region X Softball Coach of the Year.

Brown's coaching career began in 2007 as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Peru State College. As a member of Peru State's softball team, Brown was a two-time NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete.

"I'm looking forward to becoming a part of the community here in Marshalltown," Brown continued. "So many times in communities, college athletics is a primary source of entertainment, and we want to be able to provide that atmosphere. MCC as a whole displays a positive vibe throughout the area and I'm excited to see what is working well and what I can do to help continue the success of Tiger athletics."

A native of Omaha, NE, Brown earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree with endorsements in Secondary Education and Coaching from Peru State in 2007.
