While the new school year at Marshalltown Community College is underway, the MCC Baseball and Softball teams have been on campus for over two weeks. Between preseason practices, both teams have found a way to lend a helping hand, both on campus and in the community.

Each year, MCC welcomes fresh faces to its campus, especially in the dormitories. The Tiger
baseball team did their part to welcome the newest Tigers to Marshalltown by helping out on Move In Day on Friday morning. The Tigers worked in shifts and helped for a smooth transition into the dorms for the newest residents.

"It's great to see how many people from all over the world come to Marshalltown," said baseball sophomore Kaleb Hanks. "Helping everyone move into campus on their first day was a good way to get to know everyone."

MCC Baseball head coach Rich Grife commended his team for getting involved on campus. "Having such a large program like ours, this was a great way for people to get to know each other. I know our guys really enjoyed meeting the new faces at MCC."

The MCC Softball team got out in the community on Saturday morning, taking part in the 125th annual Pioneer Days parade in Le Grand, IA along with faculty and staff from the college.

MCC Softball freshman Shaena Robinsn, a native of Gardnerville, NV took in small town Iowa for the first time. "Being from outside of Iowa, it was really fun to connect with the people and get to know the outskirts of Marshalltown"

Aside from passing out candy and petting dogs throughout the parade, sophomore Lexie Valentine enjoyed her time with the people of Le Grand. "It's great to get out there and support the local area. It was fun to have people interact with MCC and I felt like we connected with everyone really well."

Both sides also spent time helping clean up around campus over the past week, pulling weeds and cleaning up garbage throughout the grounds.

Both teams open up their fall seasons on Friday, Sept. 2.
