Tiger baseball takes 1 from T-Birds

Marshalltown Community College baseball opened the 2021 season with four game series on the road over the weekend against Cloud County Community College in Concordia, KS. The Tigers went 1-3 with a 4-1 win in the third game over the T-Birds.

In game one of the series, The Tigers were down early from an 11 run second inning from the T-Birds but rallied to score four in the 7th inning. Jackson Stephen (0-1) got the loss on the day while freshman Ernesto Moreno Jr went 1-4 with two RBI's. MCC fell 14-4.

Game 2 for the weekend, the Tigers scored in the top of the 1st, but it was not enough to hold off the T-Birds in 7 innings. Bryan Morales had a huge day going 3-4 with two homeruns and four RBI's. Sam Tyrpa (0-1) took the loss giving up seven runs on 11 hits and striking out four. The final score was 18-5.

The Tigers came out with a hot start at the plate scoring four runs in the first two innings while holding the T-Birds to one run on the day. Edwin De Los Santos Moreno (1-0) took over in dominating fashion pitching six innings with one earned run, one walk and seven strikeouts! Freshman Brock Hatlan got his first save of the year pitching one inning and allowing no hits or runs and two strikeouts. Six different Tigers contributed to the hit column to help push the Tigers past the T-Birds 4-1. 

Tigers took the loss in the fourth and final game when the T-Birds had a big fourth inning. Ronald Nowak and Joel Suraganan had a multi-hit game while scoring 8 runs as a team. Freshman Nolan Vlcek (0-1) pitched 3.2 innings while punching out nine on the day. MCC fell with a final score of 14-8.

Next up the Tigers will head to Three Rivers Community College in Missouri on Saturday, March 6th and 7Th to take on the Raiders at 12 pm and 3 pm in Poplar Bluff, MO.
