Tiger softball starts spring trip in Florida on a roll

Marshalltown Community College softball started their spring trip to Florida this past weekend. They won both games to start their trip on Sunday, March 8 beating Mott Community College from Michigan 5-4 in game one and South Suburban College from the Chicago area 6-5.

Bailey Ashton got the win pitching all seven innings and giving up zero earned runs while striking out five.

In the second game McKaylee Dawson got the win over South Suburban College. She pitched all seven innings giving up two earned runs while striking out five.

At the plate Taylor Hipsley went three for four on the day with a home run, two doubles, two walks, scored two runs and had three RBIs.

Day two of the trip was the Nell Skeath Day. Game three had the Tigers taking on Illinois Valley Community College. The game started with a bang. Skeath took the very first pitch of the game deep over the left field wall. The Tigers scored two in the first, four in the second, five in the third, and two in the fourth and won the game 13-4 in 5 innings. 

Ashton pitched a great game giving up five hits, striking out four and only allowing one earned run. Skeath went four for four with two home runs, a triple, four RBIs and scored four runs. Hipsley was three for four with three RBIs.

Game 4 had the Tigers seeing Mott for the second time around. Once again the Tigers started off with a bang and scored four runs in the bottom of the first. Mott battled back to take the lead 5-4 heading into the bottom of 6th. Once again Skeath hit a bomb over the left field wall to tie the game at 5. The bats got hot at the right time and the Tigers scored four more after Skeath's home run and won the game 9-6. 

Dawson got the win giving up two earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Skeath was two for three with the homerun. On the day Skeath was six for seven with three home runs, a triple and five RBIs.
