Mullins set to join MCC Women’s Basketball coaching staff

Along with new Marshalltown Community College Head Women's Basketball Dylan Longley, the Tigers will be welcoming new Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Dajhae Mullins to the program this fall.

This will be Mullins first coaching position other than a small time at Central Methodist University as a volunteer coach for a semester, but she is no stranger to the world of basketball. Mullins helped lead the Marian Catholic High School team to a State Championship in 2013.

She has both junior college and D1 playing experience. She was a member of the NJCAA 3rd place, 2016 and 2015 NJCAA 2nd place teams in her time at Trinity Valley Community College. She then transferred and played at D1 Sacramento State University. Mullins finished her collegiate career at Central Methodist University where she received her Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.

After finishing college, she played professionally overseas and helped lead the Saltillo Racers in Mexico to the Semi Finals in 2021. Since playing overseas she has won three championships in multiple leagues in the Chicago area. Teams include Ana League Champs in 2021, D League Champs in 2022 and 2023 and is currently still playing on Team Chaos where she has played since 2021.

In addition to her basketball playing experience, a highlight for Mullins has been as a camp counselor 2014-2019 for Doug Bruno. "During the summer I had the opportunity to mentor and teach youths ages 6-12 on the fundamentals of basketball," commented Mullins.

Originally from the South side of Chicago, Mullins is a very family orientated person. She has three biological brothers and 3 stepbrothers as well as one biological sister and one stepsister.

When asked what brought Mullins to MCC she said, "Coach Longley. I saw that he received the Head Coaching position for women's basketball, so I reached out asking if he needed any assistants/staff members. From there, I sent over my resume, we had an interview, and the rest is history. I'm super excited to be a part of the MCC family and I can't wait to get there and get to work."

Coach Longley is looking forward to working with Mullins as much as she is. "Daj is one of my former players who brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to our staff. She's a former D1 player who will be able to give our players a perspective they can relate to. I'm lucky to have her as an assistant and I can't wait to work with her."

Along with coaching basketball, Mullins will be a Residence Assistant in campus housing.
