Tiger hoops set to open 2023 season

MARSHALLTOWN – New is the best word to describe the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team for the 2023-24 season. New roster of players, new coaches and new look and feel.

The team is looking to build on something special at MCC this season. Head Coach Dylan Longley and Assistant Coach Dajhae Mullins have recruited a roster of 16 players from all over the world. The roster will include two Division I JUCO transfer as well as four transfers from other levels.

"We have a unique combination of height and speed that will allow us to compete with the top of our conference this year," commented Longley. "We have everything we should need to compete, including great shooters, physical rebounders, and passers that can find the open player anywhere on the court."

Women's basketball at MCC has struggled the past several years and Longley looks to change that. "The roster we have built, will be able to bring a new brand of basketball to the MCC campus!" This year's team motto for the season is "Leave your Mark," which is something Coach Longley and his players look to do.

Longley has high goals for the Tigers this season including eventually being a top 20 ranked team and having a successful regular season to quality for the national tournament. Off the court, he expects his players to work hard in the classroom and set a standard that they will excel both on and off the court.

Long term goals for his players, Longley hopes to help move them on to the next level. "We have at least three players that could find themselves receiving D1 offers after this season along with many others that have the ability to play at the D2 level."

The Tiger sill have several scrimmages and exhibition games in October with the regular season starting with a home game Sunday, Nov. 5 as they host Grand View University JV at 1 pm. "This is a special team, and we can't wait for the community to support us and watch us play."
