MCC Volleyball drops a pair on final day of Tiger Invite

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team suffered a pair of losses on the final day of the 2015 Tiger Invitational, falling 3-0 to Lincoln Land Community College and 3-1 to Southeast Community College on Saturday afternoon. The host Tigers finished the weekend 0-4 at the Student Activity Center.

Lincoln Land wrapped up the weekend winning all four matches, dropping just one set along the way. The Loggers dropped MCC in straight sets, 25-18, 25-19, and 25-11. Southeast completed the two-day event 1-3 after defeating MCC 25-20, 25-7, 18-25, and 25-17.

Sophomore Lannie Dubberke (Cambridge, IA/Ballard) led MCC with a total of 13 kills on the day, including nine against Southeast. Freshman Nicole Montgomery (Beaman, IA/BCLUW) added 12 kills, with seven coming in the final match.

Raini Hilmer (Dysart, IA/Union) recorded 40 total kills on the afternoon to go along with 16 digs. At the net for the Tigers, Dubberke tallied 10 total blocks on the day, five in each match for a season-best total. As a team, the Tigers posted 26 total blocks, including eight solo stops. Freshman Paola Toledo (Boca Chica, Dominican Republic/San Rafael) registered eight kills and 21 digs on the afternoon.

Along with Lincoln Land, Southwestern Community College also went 4-0 on the weekend. Fort Scott Community College finished 2-2. Graceland University JV and Southeast Community College both finished with an identical 1-3 record.

The Tigers' home-stand continues with a pair of matches at the Student Activity Center next week. MCC welcomes Grand View JV at 7:00 PM on Tuesday and the team opens up Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play on Friday night against Iowa Western Community College at 7:00 PM.
