MCC’s Gouldin & Shanline ICCAC Athletes of the Week

Marshalltown Community College baseball's Ryan Gouldin and Matt Shanline have been named Division I Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athletes of the Week for the week of March 13-19.

Gouldin, a sophomore catcher from Firth, NE had a great series against Kansas Wesleyan last week as the Tigers swept the Coyotes. Gouldin went 4-7 from the plate in three games, smacking two homers, driving in eight runs and scoring a pair.

His first homer was a grand slam which was the difference in a 12-9 win. The other was another decisive knock -- a three-run blast in a 5-3 win. Effectively he walked once and was hit by two pitches to give him a .583 on-base percentage for the week. Gouldin has the second-most homers in ICCAC Division I this season with three.

Shanline, from Pratt, KS, took the mound for the Tigers in one of their games against Kansas Wesleyan last week. The freshman righty picked up his first win of the season after going six innings -- allowing one earned run off two hits and two walks.

He struck out the side twice, and five batters in a row at one point and racked up nine for the game. Shanline leads the Tigers in innings pitched this season with 12.2. He has 16 strikeouts. Marshalltown picked up their first three wins of the season last week in the sweep.

The Tigers are scheduled for their home opener tomorrow, Wednesday, March 22 as they host Southeastern Community College at 3 pm.
