MCC women pick up two wins

The Tiger women had a successful week picking up two wins over County Upper Basketball Academy (77-43) on Nov. 21 and Ellsworth Community College (85-52) on Nov. 23.

In the 77-43 win over County Upper Basketball Academy, MCC had four players in double figures led by Eva Zaragoza (18), Dana Stokes (15), Carla Collado (12) and Laurin Lyons (10). Zaragoza also lead the team in rebounds with eight followed closely by Eva Carballo and Rachelle Smith with seven rebounds each. The Tigers out rebounded their opponents 48-33.

The victory over ECC took the Tigers to 4-7 for the season. MCC took a 20-11 lead in the first quarter and continued the lead into half at 49-22. The Tigers outscored the Panthers every quarter of the game with the final 85-52 win.

Four players were in double figures for MCC. Stokes (20), Smith (14), Zaragoza (13) and Lotte Van Malsen (10). 

"We had a good team win with players coming off the bench to contribute in a positive manner," commented MCC Head Coach Steve Garber about the win over ECC. "It was our high scoring output for the year and hopefully that leads to better scoring confidence down the road."

MCC will be on the road for their next three games starting with a Tuesday, December 3 game at Oskaloosa against William Penn University JV with tip-off at 5:30 pm.
