Tiger women end 2019-20 season

The Marshalltown Community College Tiger women's basketball team ended their season on Wednesday, February 26 in Norfolk, NE losing to the Northeast Hawks 74 to 40 in the First Round of the Region XI Tournament.

The Tigers got off to a great start and led the Hawks after the first quarter 16 to 12, but after being outscored 28 to 7 in the second, they could not find the momentum to get back into the ball game. Shooting woos hurt the Tigers who were only 32% from the field and only 21% from the three, while Northeast shot 44% from the field while adding an astonishing 42% from three.

Sophomore Dana Stokes led the Tigers in scoring with 17 points and adding five rebounds to go along with five steals on the contest. The freshman duo of Nuria Castillo and Eva Zaragoza both chipped in six points each while Castillo added five rebounds and Zaragoza seven. Sophomore Laurin Lyons also added six rebounds to the contest and was a constant spark of energy, until taking a hard hit to the floor early in the third quarter and coming back to finish the last minute.

The season ends for the Tigers as they finish the season 8-22. They lose seven sophomores to graduation in Lyons, Stokes, Eva Carballo, Whitley Ervin, Lotte van Malsen, Carla Callado, and Marija Egic and return three players for next season in the Rachelle Smith, Castillo, and Zaragoza.
