Tigers Cruise at Home

After a grueling six match road trip to start the year, the MCC volleyball team got a chance to play in front of their home crowd for the first time on Monday, August 26 when the Grand View JV Vikings came to town. The home crowd didn't leave disappointed as the Tigers put on a show en route to a dominate 3-0 sweep.

The first set saw the Tigers pull away early and maintain the lead with a diverse offense that saw five players record kills with Marija Egic, Hannah Knapke, and Jelena Vucic pacing the attack with three kills apiece. MCC also took charge from the service line as they registered four aces in a 25-10 first set win.

The Vikings came to life in the second set after the home team made some lineup changes. With improved serve receive, Grand View JV was able to stay competitive in the set. But in the end, Marija Egic and her five kills on eight attempts carried the Tigers to a second set victory, 25-19.

Seeking their first sweep of the season, the Tigers came out ready to play in the third set. Following the five minute intermission between sets two and three the Tigers opened up an insurmountable 17-1 lead to open up the third set. Strong serving and blocking proved to be key for the home team as they were able to keep the Viking attack out of system and register four blocks in the set. The Vikings didn't lay down though and fought back before dropping the final set 25-11.

Next up for the Tigers is a home match against #18 ranked Iowa Central on Wednesday, August 28 2019 at 7 PM.
