The MCC women's volleyball team hosted a triangular that saw the Tigers host the Storm of Southeast Community College and the Blackhawks of Southeastern Community College.

Up first for the Tigers was a matchup with the Storm. In what will be the only matchup between the two teams this season, MCC showed that they are the superior team while picking up the sweep. The Tigers won each set easily, 25-16, 25-20, 25-6.

Offensively, the Tigers were diverse in their attack. Marija Egic led the home team in kills with seven while Elena Yee, Hannah Knapke, and Andjela Bobic each contributed six kills. Two players reached double-digit digs for the Tigers with Halee Pedro pacing the team with 17 while Hannah Knapke add 13.

After watching Southeastern sweep Southeast, it was time for the host team to take on the Blackhawks for the second time in a week. In the previous matchup, the Tigers cruised to a sweep. Things looked to be on a similar path Saturday as the Tigers won the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-18.

But then things got interesting. With the Tigers unable to create separation, Southeastern stuck around and managed to win the third set, 26-24 as the Tigers struggled with unforced errors.

With momentum on the Blackhawk side, the MCC serve and serve receive game struggled in the fourth set. The Tigers were unable to go on any extended runs from the service line as they won just 6 points off of their 21 serves. While the home team scored on 28% of their trips to the service line, Southeastern was able to score 42% of the time off of their serve. With the Tigers struggling in serve and pass, the Blackhawks controlled the fourth set and won 25-20.

After being up 2-0, the Tigers were now faced with heading to a fifth set and all of the momentum with the visitors. But the Tigers took the court for the fifth set with a different attitude. The Tigers played aggressively, but also low-error. In the fifth set, the Tigers earned seven kills without committing a hitting error to hit .438% after hitting .045% in set four. With the increased intensity and efficiency, the Tigers defeated the Blackhawks 15-5 in the fifth set to claim the match.

The Tigers moved to 11-3 and will look to pick up two more wins on Monday, September 09, 2019 when they travel to Wartburg College for a triangular with Wartburg JV and Hawkeye Community College.
