Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic / Centro de Estudio Espaillat

Centerville, IA—The Marshalltown Community College baseball team dropped a pair of Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) games on the road to Indian Hills Community College on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-1 and 5-2.

The Tigers (14-13/4-2) scored in the opening inning of each game, but the Falcons (18-9/3-3) used a three-run third inning in each game to pull away.

Sophomore Luis Duran (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Centro de Estudio Espaillat) picked up three hits on the day, including a single in the third inning of game one to reach the 100-hit milestone for his two-year career at MCC. Duran ranks second on the team with a .376 batting average this season.

MCC used an RBI-single in the first inning of game one from Duran to score Jose Mieses (Santo Domingo/Dominican Republic/Prepara), but the scoring stopped there as Indian Hills plated runs in four of the seven innings to earn the league victory.

Mieses and John Magnuson (Elk Run Heights, IA/Waterloo East) joined Duran with two hits.

Duran provided the offense in the opening of game two once again, this time with a solo home run, his third of the year. Sophomore Brok Hopwood (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) connected on his first-career home run in the second inning to double the Tiger lead.

The Falcons responded with five runs over the next three innings to sweep the afternoon doubleheader.

Tony Salato (Knoxville, IA/Knoxville) delivered two hits for the Tiers. Sophomore JJ Stephens (Sioux City, IA/Sioux City East) strike out five batters in six innings of work.
