Sophomore guard Mike Rodriguez (Boston, MA/Redemption Christian Academy) of the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team has been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week after leading the Tigers to a 3-1 start to open the 2014-15 year.
Rodriguez produced four straight games of at least 20 points to open the season and is averaging 24.0 points per contest. The guard knocked down 50 percent of his 64 shot attempts and got to the foul line 47 times. Rodriguez scored a season-best 28 points in the team's season-opening win with 28.
Rodriguez also collected a double-double with 23 points and 10 assists in an 80-78 victory against Highland Community College in the Emerson JUCO Classic. The sophomore is currently averaging 5.2 assists per game to go along with 4.5 rebounds per game.
This is the fourth player of the week honor for Rodriguez after being selected three times as a freshman.
The Tigers return to action tonight against Little Priest Tribal College in a cross-division matchup. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM in the Student Activity Center.
