Tigers post second straight shutout in 5-0 win

Estherville, IA—The Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team picked up its second straight 5-0 victory as the Tigers dropped Iowa Lakes Community College in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play on Saturday afternoon.

MCC defeated Scott  Community College 5-0 on Tuesday before rolling to its sixth shutout of the season on Saturday. Juan Carrillo (Cordoba, Spain/CES Lope de Vega) continued to carry the Tiger offense as the freshman netted two goals and added one assist to increase his team and ICCAC-leading point total to 34 on the season.

Carrillo opened up the scoring with a penalty kick goal at the 28:21 mark of the first half. Marcus Boehler (Virginia Beach, VA/Nile C. Kinnick) doubled the lead in the 41st minute thanks to an assist from Carrillo. Carrillo tallied the third goal of the game in the 70th minute for his 12th goal of the year, eight of which have come in conference games.

Austin See (Nevada, IA/Nevada) recorded his second goal of the year with 6:10 remaining on the clock. MCC wasted little time to strike again lead as Andrew Valett scored just 14 seconds later to close the door on the scoring for the Tigers.

Julian Pena (Muscatine, IA/Muscatine) was tested just one time in net, making the lone save in 60 minutes of action. Andrew Waterfall (Brandon, SD/Brandon Valley) also made one save in 30 minutes of action. MCC outshot the Lakers 13-2 on the day.

In the Tigers' 11 wins this year, MCC has scored 42 goals. The Tigers rank third in the ICCAC with 44 goals on the year.

After two straight road trips, MCC will host North Iowa Area Community College on Tuesday and will welcome Indian Hills on Oct. 19.
