ICCAC tabs Vilar as Offensive Player of the Week

Celes Vilar (Las Palmas, Spain/San Antonio Maria-Claret) tallied five points last week, including a game-winning goal in overtime to carry the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team to a pair of wins. For his efforts, Vilar was named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Offensive Player of the Week.

Vilar lifted the Tigers to an overtime conference win on the road at Iowa Lakes Community College on Sept. 16, scoring the game's lone goal in the 97th minute. The sophomore midfielder followed up the heroic performance with a one goal, one assist effort in a 4-0 win over Scott Community College on Sept. 20, the team's second straight conference win.

Vilar, who scored one goal as a freshman, has already tripled that number in 2014. The sophomore has a total of nine points on the year, the second most on the team. Eight of Vilar's points have come in the team's last four games.

The Tigers have now earned two ICCAC Player of the Week awards this year. Sophomore Juan Carrillo (Cordoba, Spain/CES Lope de Vega) was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 3.

The Tigers (5-4-0, 3-2-0) host ICCAC opponent North Iowa Area Community College (3-3-2, 2-0-2) tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 PM.
