Harrison commits to Iowa Wesleyan

Marshalltown Community College softball's Aspyn Harrison started as a Tiger and will continue as a Tiger. Harrison has signed with NAIA Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers to continue her athletic and academic career after she graduates from MCC this Spring 2022.

Harrison, originally from Shelby, NE, signed to Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday, Feb. 5. The Mt. Pleasant, IA school offered her a scholarship to attend and play softball. Along with that incentive, Harrison's best friend and former Tiger teammate, Lexi Davis is also attending and playing softball at Iowa Wesleyan. "The fact that my best friend, Lexi, is catching for Iowa Wesleyan was a big influence on my decision. I loved the campus, coaches and softball players that I met. They were all really nice. They have a big squad, but I think I will do well there," commented Harrison.

Harrison has enjoyed her time at MCC. "I liked getting to know everyone. Coming from a small high school it was the perfect place for me to start. It wasn't as big of a change as if I had attended a bigger school."

MCC Head Coach Russ Jones and Assistant Coach Kirk Steinfeldt have helped Harrison improve her game while she has been at MCC. "My swing was ugly when I got here, and Kirk really helped me with that. Jones was great at helping me with the mental aspect of my game."

During her time at MCC Harrison has earned Academic All-Region every semester. Coach Jones is excited for Harrison and her next steps after MCC. "Aspyn has blossomed into a strong leader. She is always working either on her schoolwork, in the weight room, in the gym or her job on campus. Her work ethic will be very instrumental in her success in life," commented Jones. "Iowa Wesleyan is a great choice for Aspyn and her education. Their softball program is improving each year and she will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact."

"Aspyn's leadership and skills on the field will be a big part of the MCC's success this coming spring season," said Jones.
