Streak hits six as women's basketball shuts down Ancilla

Trenton, MO—Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) and Kaleigh Sieck (Toledo, IA/South Tama) scored 18 points each for the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team as the Tigers recorded their sixth straight victory, dropping Ancilla College 74-50 on the first day of the North Central Missouri College Classic.

Howe registered her seventh double-digit performance of the year while Sieck scored a team-high for the second straight game. Jamerka Martin (Milwaukee, WI/Rufus King) knocked down three three-point shots en route to 11 points on the night and Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) added nine points and a team-high six assists.

After a close game in the first half, MCC (8-1) shut down the Chargers (0-8) in the second. The Tigers led 38-31 at halftime, but allowed just 19 points in the second frame. MCC held Ancilla to just 31.1 percent (16-51) shooting on the night, including a 26.6 percent (4-15) mark from beyond the arc. Howe grabbed seven rebounds on the night while the freshman combined with Sieck for six steals.

Islie Calles (Van Nuys, CA/Fulton Prep) scored all eight of her points in the first half, knocking down two long range shots to pace the Tigers early on. Martin and Sieck both hit two threes in the first 20 minutes as the Tigers held the opening lead.

After scoring four points in the first half, Howe picked up the pace in the second stanza. The rookie took just four shots in the first half, but shot 5-7 down the stretch to lead the offense.

As a team, the Tigers went 11-12 at the free throw line as Sieck hit all five of her attempts.

The Tigers are off to their best start since the 2009-10 season where the team started off 15-1. In 2012-13, MCC did not record its eight win until Jan. 31.

Action picks up again at the classic tomorrow afternoon as the Tigers take on host North Central Missouri College at 2:00 PM.
