Tigers close out regular season with 69-52 win

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 69-52 victory over Southwestern Community College on Saturday afternoon. The game was the final home game for four members of the team- Danielle Montgomery (Beaman, IA/BCLUW), Rusty Henio (Tama, IA/Pine Hill), Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa), and Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa).

Gott recorded her 23rd career double-double with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. Salgado, starting her 57th consecutive game, filled the stat sheet with 13 rebounds, six assists, four steals and four rebounds. Montgomery scored four points to go with three rebounds while Henio scored four points and grabbed four rebounds.

Courtney Williams-Perry (Milwaukee, WI/Bradley Tech) grabbed a game-high 13 points and recorded a double-double with 10 points while Ilsie Calles (Van Nuys, CA/Fulton Prep) came off the bench to hit three three-point shots and collected three assists, three steals, and three rebounds.

Gott and Salgado combined for the first six points of the game but the Spartans kept the game close. Calles entered the game and knocked down a three-point shot, followed by a three from Salgado to put the Tigers up 16-6. Calles drained another three at the 6:05 mark to give the Tigers their largest lead of the day at 25-11. MCC took a 31-18 lead into halftime.

MCC opened up the second half on a 6-0 run to extend their lead. Calles hit her final three in the closing minutes of the game to put MCC up 22 as the Tigers snapped a five game Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) losing streak.

The Tigers enter the ICCAC playoffs as the No. 5 seed and will travel to No. 4 seed Des Moines Area Community College at 5:30 PM on Tuesday night.
