Marshalltown, IA— Taking on Des Moines Area Community College in the team's home opener, the Marshalltown Community College volleyball team dropped the cross-division matchup to the Bears 3-0. The Tigers fall to 1-4 on the year.
The Bears, ranked No. 9 in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, set the tone early with a convincing 25-10 victory in the opening set. MCC kept things interesting in the second set, staging a late-game rally to pull within two, but the Bears held on for a 25-22 victory to go up 2-0.
DMACC closed out the straight-set victory with a 25-14 win in the third frame.
Mady Van Metre (Marshalltown, IA/Ames) and Sam Hinrichs (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) paced the Tigers with six kills apiece. Riley Clark (Papillion, NE/Papillion La Vista South) and Reeba Box (Liscomb, IA/BCLUW) tallied seven digs each while Kayla Prosser (Eldora, IA/South Hardin) posted 16 assists.
The Tigers' home stand continues tomorrow night against Northeast Community College at 7:00 PM.
