Volleyball posts three wins at St. Ambrose Invite

Davenport, IA—Mady Van Metre (Marshalltown, IA/Ames) posted a total of 17 kills and nine service aces for the Marshalltown Community College volleyball team as the Tigers went 3-1 at the St. Ambrose Invitational on Saturday. The Tigers dropped just three sets in four matches in the best-of-three format.

The Tigers (15-22) opened up play with a 2-1 victory over Clarke University JV, winning the first 25-15 before dropping the second 25-21. The Tigers bounced back with ease in the third, 15-2, to take the first match.

MCC's lone falter was a 2-0 loss to Iowa Central Community College, 25-15 and 25-13. The Tigers rebounded in the next two sets with shutout wins over host St. Ambrose JV, 25-12 and 25-15, and Clinton Community College 25-6 and 25-13.

Van Metre posted five kills and five service aces in the finale over Clinton to up her total for the day. Van Metre and Kayla Prosser (Eldora, IA/South Hardin) each collected seven kills in the first match against Clarke JV.

In the win over St. Ambrose JV, Jena Boisen (Garrison, IA/Union) totaled nine kills, tying a career-high, to go along with a team-best seven digs. Prosser added nine kills as well.

Against Clinton, the Tigers posted a season-best .714 hitting percentage as five players totaled at least four kills. Sam Hinrichs (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) recorded 69 total assists on the day.

The Tigers return to Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) action with their final home match of the 2014 regular season against top-ranked Iowa Western Community College at 7:00 PM on Wednesday.
