Marshalltown Community College is excited to announce the return of familiar face Chris Fuchsen as their new head soccer coach. Fuchsen previously served as an assistant coach and is now ready to lead the Tigers onto the field.
Fuchsen resigned from MCC in 2020 as assistant coach to focus on his family and further his career installing flooring but never stopped his involvement in soccer or thinking about his time at MCC. "I was blessed to have been a part of a great coaching staff from 2015 -2020. Head Coach Rafael Martinez and Assistant Coach Creighton Jenness were massively influential in helping me become the coach I am today."
Even in his time away from MCC, soccer has continued to be a part of his life as he coaches in the Marshalltown Area Soccer Club (MASC) where he has been since 2008 and the Director of Player Development and Coaching since 2023.
In addition to coaching in the MASC, 2013-2018 Fuchsen was the Head Boys Varsity Coach at Marshalltown High School and the MCC Assistant Men's Soccer coach at MCC 2015-2020.
Fuchsen will start in his position the beginning of July and has already thought about the goals he has for his team and the upcoming year, "I want to establish and maintain core principles which will lead to success on and off of the field. I would like to see our team's GPA at a 3.2 or higher, and obviously compete at a high level on the soccer pitch."
MCC's roster is looking good for the following season but Fuchsen is always on the lookout for players that will fit in at MCC. "When recruiting, I will be looking for student athletes who are talented athletically, but also proven winners who possess high quality character traits: ambitious, creative, resilient, and disciplined, coachable, and industrious."
When asked about returning to MCC, Fuchsen said that even though it has been a whirlwind of a month, he always believed that he would return to the MCC program and that the timing was right. "I look forward to making a positive impact in my community and helping young adults navigate life while fulfilling their dreams." Fuchsen commented, "I am excited to continue my coaching journey at such a special program as head coach, and continue the great legacy established and MCC."
In addition to the head coaching position, Fuchsen will be working as an Athletics Coordinator on the MCC campus which will include managing the student fitness center, work study students, and other athletic department associated tasks.
MCC Athletic Director, Ryan Flack, is looking forward to having Fuchsen back on the coaching staff. "We are excited to welcome Chris as our next Head Men's Soccer Coach. His success and overall experience at the NJCAA level and with MCC Men's Soccer, made him a clear favorite in our hiring process. His connection with the Marshalltown community and youth soccer club will create a positive experience for our student-athletes and within our community."
