The Marshalltown Community College Tiger soccer team continued their strong start to the season with a decisive 2-0 victory over John Wood Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
Both teams stayed scoreless in the first half, but MCC controlled the play. The Tigers came out firing in the second period, scoring two goals in the first 5 minutes. Alejandro Vientimilla, assisted by David Ospina, broke the deadlock in the 46th minute. Just five minutes later, Pedro Costa doubled the Tigers' lead with an unassisted goal.
The match took a turn when Matheus da Silva was sent off with 30 minutes remaining, receiving a red card, leaving the Tigers to play a man down. However, the team showed remarkable resilience, with goalkeeper Joao Augusto making six saves to preserve the shutout. The win pushed the Tigers' record to 2-1-1.
MCC will look to build on their momentum as they travel to Dakota County Technical College on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1 pm.
