Conference opener goes against MCC at home

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College Women's Basketball team dropped its Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) opener to Northeast Community College, falling 91-33 at the Student Activity Center on Saturday night.

The Tigers were once again led by sophomore JeAnn Hiraldo (Ames, IA/Ames) who posted team-highs of 17 points and eight rebounds to go along with four steals and three blocks. Freshman Barbara Araoz (Nequeun, Argentina/Maria Auxiliadota) added eight points and six rebounds in the loss.

The Tigers fell behind early after the Hawks posted a 31-8 advantage in the first quarter. Northeast led 50-19 at halftime and never looked back.

Hiraldo has reached double-digits in all but three games this year and currently leads the ICCAC in scoring with 17.2 points per contest. The sophomore also leads the league with 9.3 rebounds per game, 2.0 blocks per game, and ranks third with 2.5 steals per game.

MCC heads to conference foe Iowa Western Community College at 5:00 PM on Jan. 27.
