Last second shot downs Tigers

The MCC Men's Basketball team (15-6, 0-4) controlled every part of Saturday's game against NJCAA Division I 8th ranked Indian Hills Community College (21-2, 4-0) except the final shot with 3 second remaining from the Warriors.

With the game tied at 77-77 with just over 2.8 seconds remaining, it looked as if both teams would be preparing for overtime. The Warriors moved the ball just beyond mid-court for the last second shot, giving the visitors an 80-77 victory.

Both teams stayed close offensively, shooting 42 percent from the field, with the Warriors holding a 48 to 32 rebounding advantage over the Tigers.

Sophomore Chris Caird (England) once again led the MCC offense with 26 points, followed by 18 from freshman Troidell Carter (Lilburn, GA). Caird also paced the Tigers pulling down 7 rebounds.

Saturday's contest raised $2,363.40 in the Coaches vs Cancer campaign for the American Cancer Society. A portion of ticket sales for the event and donations from spectators and MCC Student Senate helped raise the donation.

The Tigers will not have any time off as they travel to play Iowa Lakes Monday, January 28, in Estherville. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
