Marshalltown, IA – The Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team has sent another player to the division I ranks as freshman guard, Oscar Kao will take his talents to Southeast Missouri State University. The 6’0 guard from Taipei, Taiwan provided highlight reel plays all season long for the Tigers, averaging over 13 points a game. An efficient shooter, Kao shot 44.3 percent from the field and 39 percent from behind the three-point arc earning him Second Team All-Region honors.
Marshalltown, IA - The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has announced its Academic All-Americans with twenty-two Marshalltown Community College (MCC) student athletes making the cut. To receive a Third Team All-American honor student-athletes needed to earn a 3.6-3.79, to earn a Second Team nod students-athletes needed a 3.8-3.99, and to earn First Team All-American honors student athletes needed to earn a 4.0.
The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) released the conference’s Academic All-Region honorees last week. Marshalltown Community College had 31 student athletes making the list, with 24 First Team selections and 7 Second Team selections. Academic All-Region honors are based off the student athletes GPA for the designated term, Second Team All-Region student athletes earned GPAs between 3.0 - 3.49 while First Team All-Region student athletes earned GPAs between 3.5 - 4.0. MCC has four athletic teams eligible for the Spring 2018 Academic All-Region honors with men’s basketball (10), women’s basketball (4), baseball (11), and softball (6). Marshalltown Community College’s Mohamed Thiam has decided to further his education and playing career at New Mexico State University. The 6’9 Forward from Dakar, Senegal has played in 59 games as a Tiger, averaging 19.7 points a game in his sophomore season and grabbing just over 9 rebounds a game. The standout forward shot 47.1% from the field and totaled 1005 points in his career. He capped off his career with a Third Team All-American nod from the NJCAA. Thiam entered the 2017-18 season ranked at the #6 JUCO prospect and the #1 forward in the nation by JUCOrecruiting.com.
