Mohamed Thiam Signs With New Mexico State

Marshalltown Community College's Mohamed Thiam has decided to further his education and playing career at New Mexico State University. The 6'9 Forward from Dakar, Senegal has played in 59 games as a Tiger, averaging 19.7 points a game in his sophomore season and grabbing just over 9 rebounds a game. The standout forward shot 47.1% from the field and totaled 1005 points in his career. He capped off his career with a Third Team All-American nod from the NJCAA. Thiam entered the 2017-18 season ranked at the #6 JUCO prospect and the #1 forward in the nation by JUCOrecruiting.com.

"We are very excited for Mo, he has worked as hard as anybody on the court and in the classroom here at MCC to get to this point," stated Head Coach Brynjar Brynjarsson. "He is going to a place that has a great winning tradition and makes the NCAA Tournament. Coach Jans is getting a great player but a better person."

New Mexico State competes in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) where they finished 12-2 and claimed the regular season and tournament titles in Head Coach Chris Jans' first season as an Aggie. The Aggies finished the 2017-18 with a 28-6 overall record and earned their sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament in seven years. Jans earned WAC Coach of the Year honors while three players earned All-Conference recognition including Player of the Year.

"My goal was to sign with a Division I school after my two years here and I was able to accomplish that goal with the help of Coach Brynjarsson and Coach Flack," stated Thiam. "I was put in a great position to succeed here and I want to thank my teammates and coaches for everything they have done these last two years."
