Tigers slug past Panthers

The MCC softball teams (4-9, 2-2) used their bats to slug past visiting ICCAC foe Ellsworth Community College (3-5, 0-4) 13-4 and 9-7 in double header action Monday.

MCC belted 5 home-runs and collected 25 hits on the evening. Sophomore Marissa Basham (Fort Madison, IA), sophomore Erica White (Johnston, IA), freshman Hailee Beals (Marshalltown, IA) and freshman Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA) all homered in the first game. White also connected for a two run homer in the bottom of the third inning in the second game to give the Tigers what would be their winning runs.

Basham finished the first game 3 for 5 from the plate knocking in four runs, while White went 3 for 4 with 3 runs batted in. White would continue the second game with a hot bat going 3 for 4 with four more runs batted in.

Sophomore Stacy Roggentein (Marengo, IA) picked up the win in the first game.  Roggentein gave up four earned runs on nine hits, struck out six batters and walked three. Freshman Taylor Vaske (Marshalltown, IA) went the distance in the final game giving up four earned runs on 10 hits, striking out three batters and walking three.

With the win in the second game head coach Jeff Lamb collected his 100th career victory at the helm of the Tiger program.

The Tigers head back to the road traveling to Indianola today to take on Simpson College.  First pitch against the Storm is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
