Hunter Embray joins Grand View baseball program

Former Marshalltown Community College baseball player Hunter Embray (Bussey, IA/Twin Cedars) will move on to play for the Grand View University Vikings for the upcoming season. Embray was a member of the Tigers from 2014-16.

Embray appeared in 92 of a possible 110 games as the team's primary catch throughout the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Embray collected 57 career hits, including seven home runs with six coming as a sophomore. Embray also drove in 36 career runs and scored 46 more.

The Vikings, members of the Heart of America Athletic Conference, have posted four consecutive winning seasons under head coach Lou Yacinich. 2016 was Yacinich's 42nd season at the helm of the Vikings.

"I chose Grand View because from an education standpoint, it is a very good school," Embray expressed after signing with the Vikings. "On the baseball side of things, the coaching staff is very helpful and are always trying to make you a better player."

"Marshalltown baseball made me one hundred a better baseball player," Embray continued. "The coaches helped me out a lot and there was a great group of guys to be around. The long weeks with a lot of baseball was never a boring moment. I'm thankful for the coaching staff for giving me the chance to continue my baseball career."

"The best part of being a student-athlete at MCC, outside of baseball, were all the teachers. My advisor, Mandy Fox helped me get all of the right classes and was always there for me."

Along with being a NJCAA All-Region XI Second-Team selection as a sophomore, Embray was a two-time Academic All-Region XI honoree as well.

MCC head coach Rich Grife commended Embray for joining a renowned program after two strong years at MCC. "Hunter was an ideal catcher for us the last two years. He provided a lot of quality innings behind the plate and got better every day. Grand View is gaining an experienced backstop that can help in a number of ways."

Embray is the 12th member of the 2016 MCC baseball team to join a four-year program for the upcoming season.
