Marshalltown, IA—Five second half goals propelled the No. 7 Marshalltown Community College Men's Soccer team to a 7-0 victory over Scott Community College in the team's 2016 season opener. The Tigers have now won seven consecutive season openers.
Six different players found their way into the scoring column for MCC, including a pair of goals from freshman Bruno Osorio (El Masnou, Spain/Turbula). Freshman Jose Moreno (Cordoba, Spain/I.E.S. Blas Infante) added a goal and two assists for the Tigers. Sophomore Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira), a NJCAA First-Team All-American in 2015, played all 90 minutes in net to notch his 11th career shutout.
The stingy Tiger defense, which conceded just nine goals in 2015, did not allow a shot from the Eagles on Tuesday evening. On the offensive end, MCC tallied 31 shots with 13 coming on net.
Osorio opened up his MCC career with the team's first goal of the season in the 10th minute. Freshman Alieu Kamara (Brooklyn Park, MN/Prairie Seeds) found Moreno open near the top of the box who in turn laid a pass off to a streaking Osorio for the early lead. Kino Ryosuke (Hyogo, Japan/Takigawadaini) put MCC up 2-0 with a shot from the right side on another assist from Moreno. The Tigers took the 2-0 lead into halftime.
The offensive onslaught opened up eight minutes into the second half as Moreno found himself on the receiving end of a pass from sophomore Artur Aguiar (Fortaleza, Brazil/7 de Setembro). Less than a minute later sophomore Pedro Oliveira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Estadual) corralled a loose ball in the box and fired a shot for the 4-0 advantage.
Osorio notched his second tally of the game on an assist from Kamara in the 58th minute. Shortly after, freshman Gabriel Perez (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Profesor Maximo Trueba) beat a series of defenders down the pitch and buried a shot between the keeper's legs for his first-career goal. Freshman Roger De la Villa (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Sant Gregori) capped off the scoring in the 81st minute on a through ball from Ryosuke.
The Tigers have now won 22 consecutive matches against Scott and have outscored the Eagles 30-0 in the last four matchups.
Next up for MCC is a home match against ICCAC foe North Iowa Area Community College at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 27. The Trojans dropped their season opener on Tuesday 1-0 to Hawkeye Community College, the newest member to the ICCAC.
