Ryosuke's hat trick carries No. 7 MCC over Carl Sandburg

Marshalltown, IA—The No. 7 Marshalltown Community College Men's Soccer team used an offensive onslaught in the second half to drop Carl Sandburg College 8-0 in nonconference action on Wednesday evening. The Tigers improved to 3-0-0 on the year with the win.

Paced by a hat trick from freshman Kino Ryosuke (Hyogo, Japan/Takigawadaini), the Tigers pulled away from the Chargers with six goals in the final 45 minutes of play. Ryosuke scored the team's first three goals of the game and assisted on the fourth to tally a personal-best seven points on the day. The freshman leads MCC with 12 points, five goals and two assists, through the team's first three matches.

The Tigers have now outscored their opponents 18-2 in the first three games of the year, outshooting their opponents by a 73-13 margin. The Chargers managed just five shots, with none coming on net compared to MCC's 16 shots, 10 on target.

Ryosuke opened up the scoring just 2:25 into the match as sophomore Thiago Fernandes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Dom Oton Mota) found an opening in the defense. MCC controlled the tempo early on and Ryosuke doubled the team's lead in the 28th minute on an assist from Pedro Oliveira (Rio de Janeiro, Braizl/Colegio Estadual).

The Tigers opened up the second half with a goal in the 55th minute as Eneko Lasheras (Tudela, Spain/Benjamin de Tudela) crossed a pass from the right side that found a streaking Ryosuke for the 3-0 lead. Freshman Roger De la Villa (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Sant Gregori) put MCC up 4-0 in the 58th minute on Ryosuke's second assist of the season.

Gabriel Perez (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Profesor Maximo Trueba) netted his second goal of the year in the 70th minute on another assist from Lasheras and just 27 seconds later, Perez beat the keeper one-on-one and laid a pass off to Jose Moreno (Cordoba, Spain/I.E.S. Blas Infante) for a 6-0 lead.

Lasheras got in on the scoring in the 75th minute as the freshman buried a free kick from 30 yards out that left the keeper motionless in net. Oliveira capped off the scoring in the 76th minute, heading home a pass from Moreno to secure the 8-0 lead. Oliveira has now scored a goal in each of the team's three games this year.

Sophomore Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira) and freshman Juan Gonzalez (Marbella, Spain/Colegio Alboran) split time in net to pitch the shutout. The appearance was the first of the season for Gonzalez.

Ryosuke now ranks third in the nation with his 12 points on the year while his five goals are tied for second in the NJCAA.

MCC makes its first road trip of the season on Saturday afternoon, travelling to Indian Hills Community College for a 2:00 PM Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) matchup.
