Tigers move up one spot in NJCAA poll after postseason run

NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Poll

Despite falling in the Region XI championship, the Marshalltown Community College earned some recognition in this week's NJCAA Division I men's soccer poll, moving up one spot to No. 13 in the rankings.

The Tigers, who were ranked No. 14 in last week's poll, won four consecutive games before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Iowa Western Community College in the regional final on Sunday. MCC reached the championship game after beating Dakota County Technical College 6-0 in the quarterfinal round and Iowa Lakes Community College 5-1 in the semifinals.

For their efforts throughout the tournament, sophomores Artur Aguiar (Fortaleza, Brazil/7 de Setembro), Miguel Jareno (Ubeda, Spain/I.E.S. Lopez-Neyra) and freshman Kino Ryosuke (Hyogo, Japan/Takigawadaini) were named to the All-Tournament team. Aguiar was also named the Defensive Player of the Tournament.

MCC has now been ranked in 22 straight NJCAA polls dating back to the beginning of the 2015 regular season.

Iowa Community College Athletic Conference members Iowa Western, the Region XI champion, is ranked No. 3 in this week's poll while Iowa Lakes Community College received votes. Tyler Junior College held on to its top overall ranking for the ninth consecutive week.
