No. 15 MCC clinches No. 2 seed in Region XI Tournament

2016 Region XI Division I Men's Soccer Tournament

Norfolk, NE—Freshman Kino Ryosuke (Hoygo, Japan/Takigawadaini) ended his scoring drought with a pair of goals on Saturday afternoon to carry the No. 15 Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Northeast Community College.

With the win, the Tigers (13-3-1/12-3-1) clinched the No. 2 seed and a home match in next week's Region XI Tournament. MCC will host No. 7 seed Dakota County Technical College at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Ryosuke scored a goal in each half, the freshman's first points since Oct. 1 vs. Iowa Western Community College. Ryosuke's 16 goals this season rank seventh for the most in a single season in program history while his 38 points rank eighth. Both marks are good enough for second in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

MCC got on the board in the 25th minute after the Tigers were awarded a penalty kick. Ryosuke stepped up to the spot and delivered the first goal of the game. Freshman Jose Moreno (Cordoba, Spain/I.E.S. Blas Infante) tallied his fifth goal of the season on an assist from Pedro Oliveira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Estadual) eight minutes later.

Ryosuke capped off the scoring in the 53 minute on an assist from David Kromah (Brooklyn Park, MN/Prairie Seeds).

Sophomore Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira) stopped two shots in net for the Tigers to earn his 19th career shutout.

Iowa Western earned the top overall seed in the Region XI Tournament. The Tigers have earned a top-two seed in the Region XI Tournament in each of the last four seasons. For the full tournament bracket visit: 2016 Region XI Division I Men's Soccer Tournament
