Bettendorf, IA—Sophomore Thiago Fernandes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Dom Oton Mota) tallied two first half goals to lead the No. 9 Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team to a 2-0 road victory at Scott Community College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Tigers improved to 11-2-1 overall with the win and 10-2-1 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play. The Eagles fell to 0-16-0 overall and 0-14-0 in league action.

Fernandes buried the Eagles early, scoring a goal in the 6th minute on an assist from David Kromah (Brooklyn Park, MN/Prairie Seeds). Kromah sent a through ball from midfield and Fernandes was able to finish for his fourth goal of the year.

Fernandes struck again in the 23rd minute as freshman Roger de La Villa (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Sant Gregori) slipped a pass through that led to the team's second goal. The MCC defense shut down the Eagles the rest of the way, allowing just two shots on goal the entire match which were both saved by Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira).

The Tigers have now won 23 consecutive matches against Scott and have outscored the Eagles 32-0 in the last five matchups.

MCC returns home to take on Iowa Central Community College for the team's regular season home finale at 2:00 PM on Saturday. Eight sophomores will be recognized prior to the start of the match.
