MCC women double down on DuPage

GLEN ELLYN, Ill. — The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team swept the season series with the College of DuPage, defeating the Chapparals 60-47 on Saturday night.
 
MCC defeated DuPage 58-44 on Nov. 9 in Marshalltown, then returned the favor with a road trip to Illinois this weekend. The Tigers made their visit count, overcoming an early deficit to dominate the second and third quarters.
 
The Tigers trailed 13-10 after the opening period before outscoring the Chapparals 18-9 in both the second and third quarters.
 
Shenell Stewart scored a season-high 22 points to pace Marshalltown, going 9-of-19 from the floor with a pair of 3-pointers. Kenijae Cherry piled up a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds, pulling down seven offensive rebounds in a game for the third time this season.
 
Destiny Sao-Martinez added nine points, nine rebounds and five assists off the bench as well for MCC (7-2).
 
The Tigers go back out on the road Saturday for their Iowa Community College Athletic Conference opener against Northeast CC in Norfolk, Neb.
