With the 2023-24 basketball season on the horizon, Marshalltown Community College Men's Basketball is set to debut a nearly all-new team under the leadership of Head Coach Ryan Flack, now entering his sixth season. This year, Coach Flack returns only two players from last year's squad—Jion Fukushima (6'4 wing) and DJ Hamilton (6'0 guard)—both of whom will play key roles in guiding an incoming class of diverse, talented recruits.
The Tigers welcome an array of talented transfers and newcomers:
Key Transfers:
- Jayden Hill (6'4, Marion, IA / Iowa Central)
- Antwan Bridget (5'9 PG, Trenton, NJ / Atlantic Cape CC)
Key Newcomers:
- Richard Udoagwa (6'8, Sao Paulo, Brazil)
- Justice Small (6'4, Toronto, Ontario)
- Ahmed Ibrahim (6'7, Queens, NY)
- Antoine Glasper (6'0, Chicago, IL)
- Shane Lieuw On (5'11, Paramaribo, Suriname)
- Eishin Naito (6'0, Fukuoka, Japan)
- John Harrington (6'3, Harlem, NY)
Coach Flack commented on the team dynamic, stating, "We return just two guys who I am going to rely on for that second-year leadership. Every year it's a new team at the JUCO level, that's nothing different. But we are going to have to expedite our leadership and our ability to work together as we only have only 4 players who have played college basketball. We have had a good fall but will be tested every week with our schedule this year as we prepare for conference play beginning in January."
Season Opener and Schedule Highlights
MCC opens the season on November 2 against conference rival Iowa Lakes in Estherville, with tip-off set for 4 pm. The early schedule is road-heavy, offering the team chance to improve and build resilience. Fans can look forward to the Tigers' homecoming at the Emerson Classic, scheduled for November 14-15. The season also includes several exciting home games in the latter half, where MCC will battle top JUCO programs in the Midwest.
"We have spent a great deal of time talking to ours guys about getting back to MCC Tiger Basketball. We need to outwork and out-tough teams every night. At the end of the day if we play hard, smart, together and do those three consistently we will give ourselves a chance and could have a fun year," said Flack.
Fans won't want to miss the chance to support this dynamic new team as they make their mark on the court.
