The Marshalltown Community College Tigers defeated the Ellsworth Community College Panthers 72-67 on Saturday, avenging an earlier 10-point loss in November.
Statistically, the teams were closely matched. Both teams shot in the 30% range for field goals and three-pointers, with rebounding in the 40s. However, MCC forced 16 turnovers while committing 11. The teams were tied 36-36 at halftime, but MCC outscored ECC by five points in the second half to secure the win.
MCC had four players in double figures, led by Tre'von Coney with 14 points and 9 rebounds.
Justice Small and Jayden Hill chipped in 13 and 10 respectively while big man Ahmed Ibrahim finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
"It was a physical game, and I thought our guys came out and played hard for 40 minutes," stated MCC Head Coach Ryan Flack. "We were able to turn them over and get stops when it mattered down the stretch."
The Tigers will travel to Quincy, IL on Monday, Feb. 17 to face John Wood Community College at 7:30 pm.
