Freshman Alberto Morales (Granada, Spain/Santa Fe DH) has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team win three straight games to open the season.
Morales scored a pair of goals in back-to-back games to start the season, netting two goals in a 3-1 win over Iowa State Club on August 22 and added two more in a 3-1 win over Kennedy-King College on August 28.
The freshman scored a goal in the 42nd minute against Iowa State Club that proved to be the game-winner. Morales added an insurance goal just 56 seconds into the start of the second half to secure the team's season-opening win. Against Kennedy-King, Morales again converted the game-winner, scoring on an assist from David Gomez (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) in the 74th minute. Gomez found Morales one more time with 40 seconds to play in the contest to give MCC its second straight game.
In the team's third game of the week, MCC traveled to Carl Sandburg on August 30. Morales fired eight shots on the Chargers to give him 20 on the year. His 20 shots currently lead the nation while his four goals are tied for 10th among all NJCAA players.
Morales and the Tigers open up ICCAC play on Saturday afternoon, traveling to the conference's newest member, Northeast Community College for a 2:00 PM match.
