NSCAA Junior College Division I Men's Soccer Poll
Jumping out to their best start since 2011, the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team climbed in the latest national rankings, moving up to No. 17 in the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Poll and to No. 17 in the NSCAA Junior College Division I Men's Soccer Poll. The Tigers are 4-0-0 overall, including a 1-0-0 mark in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play.
MCC moved up one spot in the NJCAA poll after entering the rankings for the first time this season last week at No. 18. In the NSCAA poll, the Tigers received votes last week.
Despite just one game last week, the Tigers made an impression on the voters with a convincing 6-0 win over conference newcomer Northeast Community College on Saturday. MCC is one of two teams in the conference with a 4-0-0 record, joining North Iowa Area Community College.
Against Northeast on Saturday, freshman Alberto Morales (Granada, Spain/Santa Fe DH) scored his conference-leading fifth goal of the season and added an assist for his 11th point of the season, which also tops the ICCAC. Sophomore David Gomez (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) contributed a pair of late second-half goals to keep the Tigers' record unblemished.
Freshman goalkeepers Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira) and Eion Powers (Fort Madison, IA/Holy Trinity Catholic) combined to pitch MCC's first shutout of the year.
The Tigers return to action Wednesday afternoon with their first home conference match of the season, taking on Indian Hills Community College at 4:00 PM.
