Tigers appear at No. 17 in this week's national rankings

For the third consecutive week the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team appeared in the national rankings, coming in at No. 17 in the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Poll and No.17 in the NSCAA Junior College Division I Men's Soccer Poll.

The Tigers came in at No. 17 in each of the polls last week as well, prior to winning two straight Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) contests by way of shutout. MCC blanked Indian Hills Community College at home on Wednesday 2-0 and travelled to Scott Community College on Saturday, earning a 4-0 victory.

MCC has posted three straight shutouts, outscoring its opponents 12-0 along the way. Freshman Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira) extended his consecutive scoreless streak to 289:80 in net across four games. Pereira's 0.52 goals against average is tied for first in the ICCAC.

Sophomore David Gomez (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) has propelled the Tigers offensively, contributing seven points in the team's last three games. Another goal last week from Alberto Morales (Granada, Spain/Santa Fe DH) extended his conference-leading total to six goals on the season while his 13 points are tied for first.

Iowa Western Community College, also of the ICCAC moved up to No. 8 in this week's poll. Monroe College (NY) held on to the top spot in the rankings.

MCC will put its new ranking to a test on Tuesday afternoon as the Tigers host Iowa Central Community College (2-1-0/2-1-0) at 4:00 PM.
