No. 9 Tigers blank Northeast to remain unbeaten

Marshalltown, IA—The unbeaten streak to start the season remained intact for the No. 9 Marshalltown Community College Men's Soccer team as the Tigers defeated Northeast Community College 1-0 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 11-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play.

Sergio Beresaluze (Novelda, Spain/Colegio Padre Dehon) netted the game's lone goal for the Tigers, scoring on an assist from Ellis Buchwald (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) in the 25th minute. Buchwald avoided the Hawk defenders inside the box and found a streaking Beresaluze for the eventual game winner. The goal is the third of the year for Beresaluze while the assist is Buchwald's first-career point.

The Tigers put up 18 shots on the day, including multiple attempts that rattled the cross bar. Freshman Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira) made two saves in net to record his 11th win of the year. Pereira ranks third in the nation with a 0.42 goals against average.

MCC has now posted three consecutive shutouts and leads the country in team goals against average at 0.41. Only two teams have allowed fewer goals than the Tigers' five this year.

Next up for MCC is a road match at Indian Hills Community College. Originally scheduled for a Tuesday date, the match has been pushed back to Wednesday at 4:00 PM. The Tigers defeated the Warriors 2-0 on Sept. 9 at home.
