Freshman Shaena Robinson (Gardnerville, NV/Douglas) dominated opposing pitching over the weekend for the Marshalltown Community College softball team and has been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Player of the Week for her efforts.

The Tigers opened up the 2017 season in Clermont, FL on Friday and Robinson powered the offense from the get-go. The freshman collected a hit in all six games, including multiple hits in each of the last four games. For the weekend, Robinson went 13-20 at the plate with seven extra base hits, including four home runs. Robinson also drove in 13 runs and scored 13 times.

Prior to the start of Tuesday's doubleheader, Robinson led the nation with a 1.400 slugging percentage and ranked third in the NJCAA with a .708 on base percentage and a .650 batting average.

Highlights from Robinson's big weekend include:

  • First-career home run in the team's first game of the weekend on Friday against Anderson University JV
  • A 3-4 performance, including a two-run home run in a 7-1 win over Niagara County Community College on Saturday
  • 4-4 at the plate with five RBI, two doubles, and three runs scored in a 28-3 win over Northland Community & Technical College on Saturday
  • 2-4 with three RBI in an 8-7 win over Messiah University JV on Sunday

Robinson and the Tigers are back in action on Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader against Waubonsee Community College and Madison Community College.
