Marshalltown, IA— A series of home runs propelled the Marshalltown Community College softball team to an afternoon split with Iowa Central Community College at home on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers dropped game one before rallying for an 8-0 win in six innings in game two.

Four different players homered for the Tigers on Thursday, including two in game two from Lexie Valentine (Des Moines, IA/Saydel), the first and second of her career. The sophomore drove in four runs to lift the Tigers to the shutout in the nightcap.

Freshman Shaena Robinson (Gardnerville, NV/Douglas) collected a hit in each game, including a first-inning home run in game one to extend her hitting streak to 22 games to start the season. Robinson added two hits and reached base in all four at bats in game two.

Robinson's home run gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead in game one. Annalee Myers (Ames, IA/Ames) and Valentine both scored in the third to take a 4-2 lead, but the Tritons took back the lead with three runs in the fourth. The visitors added a run each in the sixth and seventh inning to pull away for the win.

Sophomore Paige Taylor (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox) took the circle in game two and kept the Tritons scoreless through three innings. MCC took a 1-0 lead on Jordan Carter's (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney) first-career home run in the bottom of the third.

Valentine's first shot of the day came as a solo home run in the fourth to double the Tigers' lead. MCC broke it open in the fifth after Valentine delivered a three-run home run and Courtney Fudge (Pleasant Hill, IA/Des Moines East) added a two-run home run of her own. The Tigers added a run in the sixth to finish off the Tritons by way of the run-rule.

MCC hosts conference foes Southeastern Community College on Saturday and Indian Hills Community College on Sunday.
