Tigers fall twice on opening night of Tiger Invitational

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College Volleyball team suffered a pair of defeats on the opening day of the 2016 Tiger Invitational. MCC fell to Grand View JV and Lincoln Land Community College by scores of 3-0.

The Tigers kept things close throughout the opening match against Grand View, but the Vikings were able to take the match 25-21, 25-16, 25-20. Lincoln Land overpowered the Tigers and took all three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-16-, 25-15.

MCC battled with Grand View in the opening match in the early stages thanks to a pair of aces from freshman Sara Bisbe (Barcelona, Spain/CV Saint Cugat). The Tigers trailed by just one, 20-19, but the Vikings outscored MCC down the stretch.

The Tigers built a 3-1 lead in set two, but Grand View was able to slowly chip away and eventually built a six-point edge. Grand View outlasted the home team the rest of the way and into the third set to finish off the Tigers.

Bisbe posted team-highs of nine kills, 15 digs, and five service aces to pace the Tigers. Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney) added six kills and nine digs.

The Loggers of Lincoln Land proved to be too much up front for the Tigers throughout the match. Bisbe totaled eight kills and added three more service aces in the match to go along with 13 digs. Freshman Nina Bales (Lacona, IA/Southeast Warren) totaled 34 assists between the two matches.

The Tigers Invitational finishes up Saturday. For a complete schedule, visit the TOURNAMENT HOMEPAGE.
