Late leads disappear as MCC falls at home to Grand View JV

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team fell at home to Grand View JV 3-1 on Monday night. The Vikings took the match by set scores of 25-19, 14-25, 25-23, and 25-23.

The Tigers were able to bounce back in the second set to easily defeat the Vikings, but dropped two hard-fought sets to close out the match. MCC falls to 11-17 on the year.

Freshman Sara Bisbe (Barcelona, Spain/CV Saint Cugat) posted her sixth-straight double-digit kill match with a team-high 20 finishers. Bisbe has totaled 20 kills in each of her last two matches for the Tigers. Sophomore Paola Toledo (Boca Chica, Dominican Republic/San Rafael) added 10 kills for MCC.

After falling behind early in the opening set, the Tigers rebounded to stake an early 9-4 lead in set two after an ace from Toledo. Bisbe posted a kill-block-kill series to give the Tigers a double-digit advantage that led to the second set victory.

MCC held late leads in each of the next two sets, but fell down the stretch to the Vikings.

Sophomore Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney) posted nine kills and 15 digs while freshman Nina Bales (Lacona, IA/Southeast Warren) recorded 34 assists. Toledo led MCC with four service aces and DaNesha Cowley (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West) totaled five block assists on the night.

The Tigers host Indian Hills Community College at 7:00 PM on Wednesday night in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play.
