MCC to add Sport Shooting for 2018-19 Season

The Marshalltown Community College athletic department is pleased to announce that Sport Shooting with be added as a club sport in the fall of 2018. The sport's popularity has grown significantly in the collegiate ranks with college programs being added all across the Midwest.

"We are really excited to add Sport Shooting for the 2018-2019 school year. We feel like it is going to provide a unique opportunity for the demographic of students that we serve to allow them to compete against other schools in the ICCAC and state of Iowa for MCC/IVG. We look forward to seeing the impact that it has on our Athletic Department with how different it is from our current sport offerings," stated Marshalltown Community College Athletic Director Kathleen Brown.

The search for a head coach is underway, as Brown would like to have one in place by the middle of February. "We are actively conducting a search for the first Head Coach of the Sport Shooting program," stated Brown. "We would like to have someone in place by mid-February so they would have the remainder of the spring to recruit before the team officially takes to the range in the fall. Our ideal candidate would be knowledgeable about coaching sport shooting, but is also prepared and available to support the student-athletes off of the range as well, as all of our other coaches do throughout our Athletic Department."

The Tiger Sport Shooting team will consist of students from Marshalltown Community College and Iowa Valley Grinnell. The coed club team will have a roster of around twenty students and will compete with Iowa Community College Athletic Conference teams as well as four-year schools. The teams will compete in the fall and the spring with ten total competitions.

Practices will take place at the 360-acre Big Springs Shooting Complex in Searsboro, Iowa. Big Springs is equipped with a shotgun range, rifle range, and a handgun range which will provide more than enough resources for the club to be successful.
