Pablo Martinez Night

Pablo Martinez Night

On Saturday, February 10, the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team took on the #2 Warriors of Indian Hills. The ICCAC matchup was also a childhood leukemia fundraiser for Pablo Martinez, son of Head Soccer Coach Rafael Martinez. In September of 2017, Pablo was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and has been receiving treatment at Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines since his diagnosis.

Along with donations, the event had a $10 entry fee with half of the proceeds going to the Martinez family and a 50/50 raffle was offered with half the pot going to the winner of the drawing and half going to the Martinez family. Fans also cheered on Pablo's two brothers, Iker and Rafa, as they raced to make a layup sporting extra-large shorts, an extra-large jersey and size 14 shoes during a timeout.

"I want to express my gratitude to everyone that was involved in making this special event," stated Rafael Martinez. "As an employee I have felt the support from everyone from the beginning and it means a lot to me and my family. Pablo is fighting leukemia and we are fighting with him and we thank everyone in the community for their support."

The MCC Athletic Department would like to thank everyone that attended the game and showed their support for Pablo and the Martinez family.
